UMJ Students Perform Benchmarking in International KKN
One of the activities carried out by UMJ International participants in the program closing series on 1-4 September 2023 was a visit to . teachers , namely Teacher Andrew Okta Mahendar, Miss Okta, Miss Riesta, Teacher Somruedee Senpradit, Miss Kartika, and several other teachers.
When the group visited it turned out there was an event going onASEAN Week, where there is a food and culture exhibition with all ASEAN countries, including Indonesia. UMJ students used this to benchmark student activities on Thai campuses.
Apart from visiting PSU, KKN participants were also introduced to the cultural history of Thailand, especially Songkla Province, by visiting The Thaksin Folklore Museum, Halal Restaurant, and also the Khlong Hae Floating Market.
In this activity, students can explore further about tourism management and the arrangement of city facilities so that they can be used as provisions for learning at UMJ. This international insight is also provided in the form of a comparative study of Halal Food Restaurants which complements the destination and management of food businesses in Thailand.
Students also looked enthusiastic when they visited The Thaksin Folklore Museum which displays the largest collection in Southern Thailand. Here are stored more than 50,000 artefacts, including beads and jewellery, keris weapons and knives, bird and fish traps, pottery, cloth, lamps, glassware, nielloware, shadow puppets, rare coins, Buddhist relics, a full-sized korlae boat , and much more.
This museum provides tour guides in English or Thai, making it easier for KKN participants to understand every corner of the museum. They can also take advantage of the museum's extensive print, audio and video collections, including hundreds of rare documents. Of course, don't miss a visit to the museum's gift shop, which sells a variety of traditional Thai crafts.
Apart from the museum, the group also visited the Khlong Hae Floating Market, the first and only floating market in Southern Thailand, which is located in Tambon Khlong Hae, Amphoe Hat Yai, Songkhla Province, opposite Wat Khlong Hae.
The vendors here wear retro Thai costumes and sell a wide selection of food, including local food, Thai food and Muslim food. Another unique thing about this market is the use of environmentally friendly food containers such as coconut shells, bamboo tubes and clay pots instead of using foam or plastic containers. This floating market is considered unique from other markets in other regions in Thailand, because it contains a lot of Thai Buddhist and Muslim culture.
The most visitors are tourists from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. UMJ International KKN in Southern Thailand has been completed. Hopefully the KKN participants who have received various international benchmarking can bring UMJ to further progress.
